Off Road 4 Wheelin’

September 23, 2008

My friend just sent me the link to this YouTube video (SUNL FUN) and it is SO cute! Here’s the deal: There is this dad riding an off-road four-wheeler that is obvious meant for someone much smaller than him. He’s spinning and circling in the snow and looked like a big, fat circus bear on a bicycle.

But the best part about the video is the kid laughing in the background. You don’t see him until later, but he has this contagious laugh that come right from the belly. It’s totally great! Just thinking about it makes me crack a smile. And then he takes his turn at the four-wheeler and clearly has the time of his life.

If you’re looking for a little pick-me-up, definitely check it out.

Rock me Amadeus

September 23, 2008

My sister—much to my protest—inherited the family piano we had as kids. I love this piano! However, another thing I did not inherit is a single, solitary musical bone in my body. So there it sits: grandly in my sister’s home.

My nephew, on the other hand, is so interested in music. I’m convinced he possess one of those off-the-wall genes that makes you a genius. So every chance I get, I push him frantically toward the piano in hopes that one day I will eventually become known as his Svengali!

I bought him a gift certificate to Amadeus Home Music School for his birthday and he loves it. He’s still just a kid—four years old—but his teacher is patient and treats him like a regular student. She pushes him as I have hoped I would have been encouraged when I was studying piano. She arrives sometime during the day, during my nephew’s peak hours (when he’s not totally crashing and throwing a fit) and he has a blast! And, it’s totally worth sitting by proudly as he “practices”!

Muy Caliente!

September 19, 2008

Whoa! This guy is hot! Hector Kabande—restaurateur and hotelier—uses a secret ingredient his culinary creations that isn’t so secret: Hot Peppers . . . and lots of ‘em!

Kabande’s Mexican roots are the platform for his restaurant and hotel developments–and they are impressive. Family, great food, and hospitality were the Kabande family values. These principles, along with his hands-on attitude, are highly apparent by the warm atmosphere, attention to detail, and mouth-watering (sometimes, literally!) recipes of his establishments.

I’m excited to check out his new book, KABANDE ES CALIENTE, where family recipes are shared.

Puppy Tales

September 19, 2008

When I was a kid, we had a Golden Retriever. His name was Grady. He was beautiful: huge floppy paws, long white-yellowish fur, and a big, wet black nose. My mom likes to recall the story of how Grady was so attached to my brother, sister, and myself, that around 3:00 everyday—just before the school bus turned the corner of our street—Grady would situate himself at the front window and plop his big head on this sill, watch us get off of the school bus, and walk home. As soon as we walked through the door, Grady’s tail was happily a-wagging!

I’ve recently decided to get a dog of my own . . . a Golden Retriever. I did my research and decided that Happiness Is Pets is the perfect place to find my new friend. Happiness Is Pets specializes in puppies and is dedicated to providing the best care for their pups. They genuinely care for the health and happiness of the dogs (they have the best health warranty in the industry and provide FREE vet visits the first 14 days you have your new puppy).

I want to spend time with a puppy and know that it is healthy and well socialized before I bring it into my home to meet my family!

I have a distinct memory of car buying as a child. Our family would wake up early—usually on a Saturday and usually when it was inevitably raining—and hit up every car dealership in our town. Once my parents settled on a car they deemed suitable and affordable (or we had simply become too bedraggled and defeated to care), my father would disappear into a tiny office to (apparently) haggle for hours while my mother, sister, brother, and myself stared wide-eyed as men accumulated around the water cooler to do, well, seemingly nothing.

This was not the way I wanted to spend my weekend.

This memory alone makes me never want to take another step inside a car dealership. That’s why Sands Brothers Chrysler is right up my alley. PA dealers actually compete for your business. And get this: all from the comforts of your computer. You can research and design your dream car, and get a free auto quote from trusted dealers. You can even shop for a used car. Now this is stress-free car buying; it just can’t get any easier!

Goodbye car dealerships . . . hello weekend!

Hope in Health Insurance

September 19, 2008

As a freelance writer, health insurance is a topic that I hold near and dear to my heart. While perusing the web looking for plans, quotes, and just about any encouraging news for the uninsured and underinsured, I came across a ray of light peeking through the ominous dark cloud that has come to hover when I am looking to purchase health insurance. United American Insurance Company just might be the little piece of sunshine I’ve been searching for to give peace of mind health care.

UAIC is dedicated to providing top-notch (“A+” A.M. Best) insurance products for those that cannot afford to buy it. They offer health insurance, life insurance, cancer/critical illness insurance, Medicare supplement, Medicare Part D plans, and Group Retiree plans, along with a dedicated staff.

And although UAIC is focused primarily on senior health plans, I am curious enough to further investigate what they can do for me. UAIC is helping lift the burden of health insurance for the uninsured. Here comes the sun, indeed.
